PTA Digital Newsletter

We had an amazing turn out last month! 

Thank you to everyone that joined us! 

Please join us for our monthly PTA meeting online. PTA meetings are a great way to get connected with the community, ask questions of other parents and of school staff and find ways to get involved at school right now. You are welcome to attend whether you are a member or not (although of course we would love everyone to sign up to join the PTA at www.capitolhillelementary.com). 

We will get an update from Principal Shea, discuss upcoming events and ways to help support our teachers and staff during this very different school year. We will also be voting on a few board positions for the 2021-2022 school year. We still have openings available if you would like to be part of the PTA team. 

We will use Zoom to host our meeting. Click here or go to bit.ly/CapHillPTA at 6:30 on Wednesday, October 20th. We are looking forward to seeing new and returning parents there!

This week is Spirit Week! Your student is welcome to participate on any or all of the days! The teachers always have lots of fun on these days. What a fun way to head out to Thanksgiving Break! 

Monday: Mismatch Day (wear mismatched anything!)

Tuesday: Sports Day (wear any sports themed stuff)

Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday (wacky hair, wacky socks, wacky anything!)

Thursday: Favorite Color Day (wear your favorite color head to toe)

Friday: Pajama Day (the best day ever! Roll out of bed ready for school! Please remember your child should have shoes that are ready for recess and/or PE)

Your students should have received a flyer from school with a preview of some of the items available at our virtual book fair. The money raised during the book fair benefits the Capitol Hill Library. Unfortunately, like so many things right now, Scholastic is about 4-6 weeks out on delivery. Please keep this in mind if you are ordering holiday books. Thank you for supporting our school library!

Thank you to everyone who helped support our PTA by buying holiday greenery! We raised over $1000 for our PTA! Thank you for your support. Money raised through fundraisers like this one help support our teachers, fun activities for our students and allow the PTA to support the school in so many ways!

 A big THANK YOU to Michael Wallisch, our PTA Treasurer, for organizing this fundraiser again this year! It was a great success!

We are at the very beginning stages of working on our 2022 Virtual Auction. We have never had a virtual auction so there is a lot to learn and still a lot of questions to be answered. What we do know, however, is that we NEED PEOPLE and we NEED ITEMS DONATED. Would you be willing to help with little things that make a big difference (sending out donation request emails) or are you able to help be part of our committee that helps figure it all out? Are you artistic and want to help with the graphic designs for the night? We need you! If you are new to CH and are nervous that you don't know how to help ... you are in good company! The virtual auction is new to all of us and we need your help! 

Another very important part of making the auction actually happen are the donations. Do you have sports tickets (Timbers, Thorns, Blazers, Pickles ... any sports!)? A vacation house you could rent out? A fun event people could attend? A physical item we could auction off (one year we had a gorgeous red bike!)? Services (spa package, hair color, dance lessons)? We are looking for anything and everything! 

We promise - it is a lot of fun and the more people we have helping the better this new auction will be! We hope to hear from you soon!

As we get close to the end of the year, you might be looking for donation opportunities. What better place to donate than our school! Here are a couple options:

1. PTA General Fund: The general fund is our main spending account. It is where our budget becomes money for our school. The general fund donates money to each classroom and specialist teacher for classroom needs of any kind. Capitol Hill has one of the most generous teacher funds around and our teachers really appreciate it. The general fund also provides the funds for community events. Although we do not have many events this year, the money we raise this year will be spent next year (think Big Boo/Fall Carnival, Field Day, Decathlon, Grandparents Day, Art Show and so much more!)

2. Teacher Appreciation Fund: This year is a much tougher year for our staff and we would love to help cheer them up every few weeks. Snacks, self care items and other treats will be left in the teachers' lounge to help brighten their weeks. If you would like to contribute to that fund, we know the teachers and staff would really appreciate it!

With the holidays coming up, you might be wanting to get a little something special for your student's teacher or some special staff members that make Capitol Hill an amazing place.
