At our February PTA Meeting, Principal Shea shared our staffing information for next school year. Enrollment projections are down again for next year. Because of this, PPS is cutting the staffing budget as well. Because of our projected numbers, Capitol Hill will loseone Kindergarten teacher, one 1-5 teacher, 0.25 ESL teacher and 0.5 office staff.
Because of these losses, our class sizes will increase across many grade levels. Our projected numbers are below.
The Capitol Hill PTA Board feels it is important for parents to reach out to the district and share any concerns you have about these cuts and how they will affect our class sizes for next year. We encourage you to email and call PPS and the PPS board. It is important to remember that these cuts don’t just affect Capitol Hill. Jackson Middle School and Wells High School are also going to experience staffing cuts next year.
If you are interested in emailing about class sizes and staffing for next year, please contact Area Senior Director Isaac Cardona at 503-916-2000, ext. 70042 or email at icardona@pps.net or our Zone 1 Board Representative and Vice Chair Andrew Scott at anscott@pps.net. PPS has not submitted their budget to the board yet but will do so soon. It is important to reach out to the PPS board members and administrative staff as a community and make sure our voices are heard.
