PTA Digital Newsletter

Join the Capitol Hill PTA

The Capitol Hill PTA is a non-profit organization that works to support our teachers and staff, create a sense of community and help support our school to ensure it continues to be a great place for our children to grow.

Our PTA is made up of a community of parents and staff that work to raise money to help supplement our school budget, volunteer in the school to help support our amazing staff and vote on the best ways to spend our PTA budget each year. By joining the PTA, you are becoming part of an important team at our school. We want to hear from all our families so all voices are heard. CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR PTA

Over the last few years, our meetings have been over Zoom, but we are looking forward to getting back together in person. PTA meetings are a great way to meet other parents, stay informed about things going on at school and within the district, listen to guest speakers provide great information on a variety of topics, voice your opinions, ask questions and find ways to get involved at school. We hope to see you at our first meeting in September

Our first meeting of the year will start with a new parent meeting before the general meeting. You will be able to meet the board members, learn about volunteering in the school, get a quick tour of the school and ask any new parent questions you might have. You don't have to be a Kindergarten parent to be a "new" parent. Covid has made many parents "new" to the school so everyone is welcome to attend the new parent meeting!

Project Community Care Day

Project Community Care Day
Saturday, August 27, 2022
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Project Community Care is a wonderful tradition and an opportunity for community members to help beautify our school grounds before students return for the school year. Volunteers of all ages are welcome. We will be weeding, spreading mulch around flower beds and bark in the playground, trimming, planting flowers, and taming our summer garden jungle. Please bring your favorite gardening supplies. Wheelbarrows, pruning shears, weed whackers and bark spreading rakes would come in very handy. If you don't have any of those items, we do have some gloves and hand tools you can borrow. We'll have snacks for our volunteers, but please bring a water bottle.

Our new principal, Mike Sauers, will be at Project Community Care Day. We hope you can swing by and help beautify our school and meet our new principal. Contact Jill Morgan with any questions jalderson@gmail.com

First Day of School

We are so excited to see our families return to what will hopefully be a more traditional school year! 1st - 5th grade families will return on Tuesday, August 30th and our Kindergarteners will join the others a week later on Tuesday, September 6th. We can't wait to see everyone!

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Thursday, September 8th
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The Ice Cream Social is our first community event of the year! We are so excited to get back together again and celebrate the start of a new school year. The last time we had an ice cream social was September 2019!!

The Ice Cream Social is a completely relaxed social event where we get together as a community and just hang out! The kids play on the playground, families get to know each other and there is FREE ice cream for everyone - shout out to DAIRY HILL for donating! The PTA will have tables set up with information about ways you can volunteer this year so swing by a table to find out more information!

Volunteer Opportunity: PPS Clothing Center

Thursday, September 8th
9:30AM - 1:30PM
Marshall (Benson HS) Campus 3905 SE 91 st Avenue, Room B-60

One of our favorite places to volunteer is the PPS Clothing Center. The Clothing Center is a place where families from PPS can come and get clothing if they need it. All items are free to families and is a wonderful service provided by PPS. CLICK HERE to watch a short video about the PPS Clothing Center.

PPS asks each PTA to send 5-6 volunteers twice a year to help sort clothing and help families find what they need. It is a wonderful volunteer opportunity and if you are interested in volunteering in September, please reach out to our PTA Vice President, Marianne Majors at vicepresident@capitolhillelementary.com

Join the PTA Board

The PTA board is a group of parent volunteers that help lead the PTA. Positions are a two year commitment and are a wonderful way to get involved. We are currently looking for a Treasurer 2 and at least one Volunteer Coordinator. If you are interested in either of these positions or have any questions, email Melissa Hamilton at comm@capitolhillelementary.com

PTA Website

The PTA Website is a great place to get tons of information! Learn about annual events like the Auction and the Big Boo!, find dates for school and PTA events, buy spirit wear (stay tuned for more info!) and find ways to volunteer at school. It is also where you can sign up to become a PTA member!

As a PTA member, you will also have access to the PTA Directory which will help you find other parents to connect to. It is a wonderful way to get connected to people at school and only PTA members have access to the directory.

We hope you visit our website often to get up to date information about the PTA and our school. Go to www.capitolhillelementary.com to join the PTA today!

Capitol Hill on Instagram and Facebook

Say what you will about social media ... but it is a great way to get information out to lots of people quickly! For this reason, our PTA is on both Facebook and Instagram. Our Parents Facebook page is also a great place for parents to post questions and get information about things happening in our community.

It is also a great way to see old photos from PTA events if you are new to our school. ◡̈
