First PTA Meeting & New Parent Meeting

We had our first PTA meeting of the year and the turnout was incredible! Our new principal, Mike Sauers, was our guest speaker and gave us some information about who he is, what his philosophy is as an educator and what his goals are as he becomes part of this amazing community. We were so thankful to have him as our first guest speaker and we can't wait to work with him throughout the year!

If you missed the first meeting, you are in luck! We will have one every month! ◡̈

During our October meeting, we will have Mr. Jeremy (school social worker) and Mr. Z (school counselor) as our guest speakers. They will share resources for parents as well as information about how they support our kids during the school day.

Childcare during PTA meetings is available free of charge through our fabulous Champions team. We are so grateful for their help!

School Picture Day

School Picture Day is  Wednesday, September 21st

All students will have their photos taken for the yearbook. If you would like to order photos, go to mylifetouch.com and enter Picture Day ID: EVTDXM2PP

Volunteers

Thank you to everyone who signed up to volunteer at the Ice Cream Social and our PTA meeting last night! It was so nice to see so many people excited to step up and help in so many different ways.

If you didn't get a chance to sign up, emails will be coming with volunteer opportunities. Volunteers help make our school a better place for all our kids.

To sign up for volunteer opportunities or to learn more, go to the PTA website and click the VOLUNTEER tab www.capitolhillelementary.com

Volunteer Opportunities

  • The Big Boo!: we need parents to help run games for the kids - usually a 30 min shift, set up for the event and help break down after the event
  • The Auction: we need parents to help us send out emails to get donations (we will send you the list and you just plug in the info - great for working parents because it can be done any time), we need help with decorations, finding sponsors, grade level art and volunteers that are happy to help with needs as they arise
  • Staff Appreciation: we need a parent to take the lead on showing our staff that we love them! Coffee runs once a month, teacher appreciation week, office staff appreciation and support staff appreciation.
  • Garden: we need volunteers to help get the classroom plant beds ready for planting and possibly volunteers to work with classes in the garden
  • Community Events: we have so many other events during the school year and we always need people who are up for helping with anything. Family Fun Nights, Grand Friends Day, Field Day and more!
  • Art Helpers: we need volunteers who could help hang student art around the school and possibly help in the art room
  • Library Helpers: we need volunteers to help students find books while Ms. Wutzke helps them check out books
  • Lunch and Recess Helpers: Help our kids during their lunches by opening granola bars or helping with spilled milk and then join them outside for RECESS! Lunch and Recess Helpers make a huge difference to our staff and our kids.
  • Crosswalk Help: Help our kids get to school safety by helping with morning or afternoon crosswalk duty. This is a wonderful volunteer options for parents that have a few extra minutes in the morning or afternoon and helps keep everyone safe each day!

If you are interested in volunteering, contact our newest board member and Volunteer Coordinator, Kate Gannon Sprinkel at volunteer@capitolhillelementary.com

Grand Friends Days 10/17-10/21

This year, Grand Friends Day will become

Grand Friends Week!

We are changing Grandfirends Day up this year.  Due to the fact that we are still in a pandemic Capitol Hill has decided to celebrate in a different way. Capitol Hill, along with PTA will be offering a light breakfast for our Grandfriends to enjoy with their students in our cafeteria.  They will then be able to visit the book fair and deliver their student to class.  Classroom visits will not be happening this year in an effort to keep everyone healthy.

We will have more details soon, but for now, here is the schedule:

10/17: Kinder

10/18: 1st

10/19: 2nd

10/20: 3rd

10/21: 4th & 5th

Dining Night Out - October 19th

One of our favorite ways to raise money for the PTA is by taking the night off from making dinner! The PTA will regularly have Dining Nights Out with restaurants around town with a portion of the sales coming to our school! Next month, we will have our first dining night out. We hope everyone can help support our PTA by taking a night off from cooking!

When: Wednesday, October 19th, 3pm-9pm

Where: SteepleJack Pizza & Beer, 4439 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, Portland, OR 97221

What: 10% of all food sales and 15% of all SteepleJack beer sales (including to-go cans and growlers)!  [This will include dine-in and to-go, but will exclude Uber and DoorDash.]

Fine Print: No need to mention CH ... they are donating off ALL sales so please tell your friends, family and neighbors!

**If you have any recommendations for restaurants that would like to participate in a Dining Night Out, contact Marianne Majors at vicepresident@capitolhillelementary.com

PTA Directory

Please make sure to log onto the PTA website and update your family information for the directory. All students have been promoted to the next grade level but their teacher's names have not been updated. Please log on and make sure your information is correct so that other families can find you!

As a PTA member, you will also have access to the PTA Directory. It is a wonderful way to get connected to people at school and only PTA members have access to the directory.

We hope you visit our website often to get up to date information about the PTA and our school. Go to www.capitolhillelementary.com to join the PTA today!

PTA Meetings are a great way to learn what is happening at school, ask the principal questions, meet other parents and find ways to get involved in our community. We had a great turnout at the first meeting and look forward to seeing even more faces next month!

You do not have to be a PTA member to come to a PTA meeting. Only PTA members are able to vote on any questions brought up at meetings so membership is important. We don't want any barriers to membership. If you would like to join the PTA and are in need of a scholarship, please contact our treasurer, Tabitha Ames at treasurer1@capitolhillelementary.com

To join the PTA, go to www.capitolhillelementary.com

Thank you to everyone that came out to the Ice Cream Social! It was wonderful seeing everyone back together again! Thank you to our volunteers that helped make the night a real success! We had over 500 people and over 100 people sign up to volunteer. What a wonderful start to this year!

Capitol Hill on Instagram and Facebook

Say what you will about social media ... but it is a great way to get information out to lots of people quickly! For this reason, our PTA is on both Facebook and Instagram. Our Parents Facebook page is also a great place for parents to post questions and get information about things happening in our community.

It is also a great way to see old photos from PTA events if you are new to our school. ◡̈
