Message from the PTA President

Greetings Capitol Hill families, and welcome to a very unique school year.
These last few weeks have been a learning exercise for us all as we get accustomed to new learning platforms, programs and games. Many of us are managing a seemingly impossible situation of trying to work at home while helping our kids learn, of trying to support our families’ needs as well as our own, and doing all of this in such an uncertain environment. Suffice it to say that the 2020-21 school year will be nothing like normal. While this means that the PTA and our activities will also be nothing like normal, it does not mean that the PTA is any less important.
In order to continue to provide our students with the warm sense of community they are used to at CHE, we need your help and involvement. This starts with signing up for the Capitol Hill PTA (new families), or renewing your annual membership (returning families). Here’s a link to join the PTA:
Membership is $15 per person, $25 per couple, $10 for Capitol Hill faculty. If the financial cost is a barrier to you, please know that we have donated memberships available, just click on scholarship!
In addition to joining the PTA, we need help rethinking some of our most beloved events, including:
- Book Fair
- Big Boo
- Teacher Appreciation
None of these events will look or feel like they did last year, but we can still use them to bring our community together to make the year as enjoyable as we can. In order to do this, we need people who can help formulate a vision for these events and provide leadership to implement the vision. The PTA board stands ready to help make these events happen, but we cannot do it by ourselves!
In addition to opportunities to help organize and run specific events, we are looking for people to join us on the PTA board. We have several open positions including:
- Vice President
- Treasurer 2
- Volunteer Coordinator 2
- Communications Lead
If you want to be more involved and aren’t sure what position is best for you – reach out to us and we’ll figure something out!
We all know the year will be a challenge for our students, teachers and families. The PTA is committed to helping to ensure that we all have the best possible experience, and the strong sense of community we are known for is felt by us all.
We’ll look forward to seeing many of you at our first full PTA meeting (virtually, of course) on Wednesday October 21st at 6:30pm. We will share and post a meeting link and agenda in early October.
