Each year, we hold an annual auction, our biggest fundraiser of the year. In the past, we’ve raised money to update our playground, build our computer lab, provide iPads and Chromebooks in the classroom, build an indoor climbing wall, provide science enrichment, build a community garden, as well as many other programs to enrich your child’s experience at Capitol Hill. Here are some answers to common questions about the auction:
Q: What is the theme of this year’s auction?
A: The theme of the auction this year School of Rock.
Q: Do I have to dress up? I am not really a costume person...
A: Please wear whatever makes you comfortable. However, if you’re in the mood to come in costume, here are a few ideas: Dress up as your favorite band member, pull out an old concert t-shirt or other memorabilia from past years. Come dressed in costume or whatever makes you feel comfortable. Most importantly, just come enjoy the fun!
Q: Do I have to purchase anything at the auction?
A: Absolutely not! Along with being our biggest fundraiser of the year, the auction is also our biggest adult-only community event. There is no obligation to buy anything.
Q: What types of items are available for bid?
A: There will be student artwork, restaurant gift cards, event tickets, baskets, sign up parties, special outings with your child’s favorite teacher and more. Please visit the auction website https://capitolhill.schoolauction.net/auction2018/catalog for a sneak peak of the items available. Check back starting in January once we begin to receive our procurement.
Q: When is this thing again?
A: Saturday, February 24th, @ 5:30 p.m. at Mittleman Jewish Community Center.
Q: What can I expect to happen the night of the auction?
A: From 5:30pm to approximately 6:45pm, there will be a cocktail hour. During that time, there will be a silent auction, wine wall, a game or two and lots of socializing. At 7:00pm, a buffet dinner will be served. After dinner, the fun begins with a live auction. The live auction will have several classroom art projects with art that your child helped make, as well as other exciting packages.
Q: How do I reserve a table? Do I have to pay for the table and have people pay me back?
A: To reserve a table, go to https://capitolhill.schoolauction.net/auction2018/tickets/ticket_sales.
Reserve your table and select pay by check. Email Melissa Hamilton at firstname.lastname@example.org
with the list of people who will be sitting at the table and each person can pay by check (checks to Capitol Hill PTA) in the folder in the school office.
Q: Do I have to reserve a table?
A: No, you do not have to reserve a table. You can purchase individual or couple tickets.
We will do our best to put you at a table with other parents in your grade.
Q: Do you have to be a parent to attend? I have friends and grandparents who want to get
in on the fun!
A: Anyone who wants to support our school is welcome to purchase tickets! Invite your neighbors,
the grandparents or bring along your weekend houseguests!
Q: Why are the tickets $50?
A: Tickets cover the cost of food, beverages, the auctioneer and renting the facility. The ticket cost does not raise money for the school.
Q: What happens with money raised at the auction?
A: Funds raised at the auction make up the majority of the PTA’s budget for things like literacy, library, technology, science, art and music.
Q: Is there a special appeal this year?
A: Yes! This year’s special appeal is Music. This year, we are turning our attention to adding a music program with the possibility of bringing in music-related artists in residence. Capitol Hill has been
lucky to have a well- developed visual arts program and this year, we would like to extend this to
a music program.
Q: OK, I am sold now, how do I buy tickets?!
A: Tickets can be purchased online at https://capitolhill.schoolauction.net/auction2018/tickets/ticket_sales
or by returning your invitation with a check to the box in the school office. If you buy your tickets online, you have an option to ‘vault’ your credit card for faster check-in at the event! Tickets are on sale through February 16th.
Q: Can I still help with the auction?
A: We need lots of volunteers to have the auction go off without a hitch! If you are still not quite sure if you want to attend, this is a great way to go and see what it’s all about while helping and you’ll get to attend for FREE. Q: I can’t go to the auction, can I still donate?
A: There are several ways to support the auction if you can't attend. You can buy a ticket for a teacher, donate items to sell at the auction, or buy items at the online auction.
